 Title: Coal Mining
Description: Before the occupation of the territory the natives already knew the "stones that burned". But it was the muleteers who, by the end of the eighteenth century, became aware of the existence of charcoal stone in the southern region of the state and carried the news on. Due to their economic value they aroused the interest of the Court. From that time the exploration in the region was developing and growing with the discovery of numerous coal deposits. Even today mining remains an economically representative activity for the municipalities that are part of the Carboniferous Region of southern Santa Catarina.
